lyrics
On a gray April morning
I took a lonesome walk
I didn't have no place to go
so I ended up in a house of God
Saw the preacher at the pulpit
wearing pastel green and white
he said lord please have mercy
and make everything alright
He said, "Look at us crying, Look at us now.
We're waiting for salvation, but the rain keeps falling down."
Saw a woman with a mustache
and a man with a bad toupee
His wig was dingy yellow
but his hair was silver gray
Across the aisle I saw a soldier
looking scare but standing talk
He had the weathered face of child
he was waiting for his call
He said, "Look at us crying, Look at us now.
We're waiting for salvation, but the rain keeps falling down.
The preacher's eyes burned with fire
and his trembling voice grew thin
when he laid his hands on the soldier and said,
"Forgive us for our sins."
And the woman sitting next to me
she was sobbing uncontrollably
when she looked up towards the heavens
and she fell down to her knees.
She said, "Look at us crying, Look at us now.
We're waiting for salvation, but the rain keeps falling down.
The preacher started shaking
when he looked into my eyes
He said, "Jesus knows you're suffering.
Jesus sees you cry."
Well I sat there very silently
I didn't know what to say
when I felt a hand on my shoulders
It was the man with the bad toupee
He said, "Look at us crying, Look at us now.
We're waiting for salvation, but the rain keeps falling down...
